HOW CAN I KEEP COSTS AS LOW AS POSSIBLE WHEN USING AN ENGINEER TO WORK ON MY BOAT?

There are a few things you can do to reduce your servicing costs when engaging an engineer. Number one on the hit list: please make sure your battery is charged and there is fuel in the tank!! If you know the battery may be flat or the boat needs fuel, please advise before Ross attends - he can bring a jump pack or fuel, but it really helps to know this before he arrives. It saves time, and time is money...

As New Life Marine generally charge by the hour, you can reduce the time spent by preparing your boat for the work to be carried out. Whilst Ross is very happy to earn money removing your personal items from under seat bases before removing seats to access the engine room, it is an expensive way to do it. Hence, have a discussion with Ross before work commences to see if there is anything you can do to help facilitate access to the area of your boat that is to be worked on.

WHAT ARE YOUR OPENING HOURS?

Very simply, whenever. Normally, Ross works monday to friday 0800 - 1600 for routine work, but as an independent engineer Ross can work at weekends or late into the night if your circumstances dictate it. You could suffer from a poorly timed breakdown that needs fixing quickly, or you may be a liveaboard shift worker working night shifts. Either way, please contact Ross to discuss your case and requirements for unsociable hours working. And unlike many large companies, there are NO extra charges for working unusual hours.

CAN I WATCH AND LEARN WHILST YOU WORK?

Yes.

Ross is happy to help owners understand the work being carried out and instruct on basic engine maintenance procedures and engineering techniques. Indeed, Ross spent some time at a major airline both writing and delivering technical training and hence is both happy and experienced in explaining what he is doing, and even helping owners to become confident enough to carry out work on their own boats.
